Auditions: Tips & Reminders

The info letter and participation agreement document is now live.
All interested students should download the informational letter with:
 - important dates and requirements
 - production participation agreement
 - links to online audition form/crew app

AUDITIONING PROCESS:
You must have sheet music for your audition song. It should be in the correct key for your voice and include the piano part. (See example below)

Don’t own any sheet music? No worries!
EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO USE MR. M.’s AUDITION BOOKS.

Click HERE to access the audition files Mr. Mathias has made available.

(*These are intended only for HSE students and should not be shared outside our school community.)

NOTE: You are definitely not limited to what you find in those resources; they are just here if you would like to use them.

If you don’t see anything you like in our binders and books, but don't have music, see if your friends do. Libraries also have some sheet music. Book stores (like Half Price Books, Barnes & Noble, etc.) carry some songbooks. Online sources like MusicNotes.com or SheetMusicPlus allow you to buy sheet music to print out. (but it is not free, so talk to your parents first!)

SONG SELECTION REMINDERS
- Your song should be in the style of the show for which you are auditioning. Do NOT sing a song from the show you are auditioning for.
- Pick something that shows off your vocal ability (e.g. range, expression, character, etc.) but pick something that you can perform safely and consistently.
- Pick a song you enjoy
singing; let your enthusiasm feed your confidence and make bold choices!

After you completely fill out the online audition form, print and complete the signature sheet, then bring it with you to auditions on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 9.
You MUST fill out the online app linked in the informational letter/signature sheet.

ON THE ACTUAL AUDITION DAY:

- Dress comfortably but appropriately. There may be a light dance/movement section, so please bring appropriate footwear.

- Practice your introduction when you practice your song. It should go something like this:
"Hello my name is [YOUR NAME]. I am a [YOUR GRADE] and today I will be singing a selection from [YOUR SONG TITLE] from [TITLE OF THE SHOW IT IS FROM]."

**If you are using a selection from one of Mr. M.’s resources, you do not need to print a copy. we will already have those books there.**

If you are using your own music:
 - The actual pages of music should be in a binder** or displayable in a way that makes it easy for the accompanist.

If it's in a book, make a copy of only the pages you need. You should be prepared to sing 16-32 measures of the song.

- Please clearly mark in the music where the selection starts and where it ends.
