Want to be part of the spring musical? Great!
Auditions: Tips & Reminders
If you are interested in auditioning for Chicago: Teen Edition, please read the information on this page carefully and fully! If you are interested in applying for a crew position, please stay tuned for more information.
*Optional Dance Audition*
There is an optional dance audition that all are welcome to complete. If you are especially interested in a role that involves dancing, you will want to look at this page for more information on the optional dance audition.
Audition Process: Preparation & Materials
You must have sheet music for your audition song. It should be in the correct key for your voice and include the piano part. (See example below)
Don’t own any sheet music? No worries!
EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO USE MR. M.’s AUDITION BOOKS.
Click HERE to access the audition files Mr. Mathias has made available.
(*These are intended only for HSE students and should not be shared outside our school community.)
We will have copies of the binders in the room on audition day.
NOTE: You are definitely not limited to what you find in those resources; they are just here if you would like to use them.
If you don’t see anything you like in our binders and books, but don't have music, see if your friends do. Our local library in Fishers has some sheet music. Book stores (like Half Price Books, Barnes & Noble, etc.) carry some songbooks. Online sources like MusicNotes.com or SheetMusicPlus allow you to buy sheet music to print out. (but it is not free, so talk to your adult first!)

SONG SELECTION REMINDERS
- Your song should be in the style of the show for which you are auditioning. Do NOT sing a song from the show you are auditioning for.
- Pick something that shows off your vocal ability (e.g. range, expression, character, etc.) but pick something that you can perform safely and consistently.
- Pick a song you enjoy singing; let your enthusiasm feed your confidence and make bold choices!
On the ACTUAL audition day...
- Dress comfortably but appropriately.
- Practice your introduction when you practice your song. It should go something like this:

**If you are using a selection from one of Mr. M.’s resources, you do not need to print a copy. we will already have those books there.**
If you are using your own music:
- The actual pages of music should be **in a binder** or displayable in a way that makes it easy for the accompanist.
If it's in a book, make a copy of only the pages you need. You should be prepared to sing 16-32 measures of the song.
- If you want to put your music in sheet protectors, that is fine but PLEASE make sure that they are not glossy. (You’d be surprised how much glare those lights create!)
- Please clearly mark in the music where the selection starts and where it ends. (Big marks in pencil, pen, or highlighter!)
